Past Research
1. Undergraduate Research: During my junior and senior year, I conducted research for my senior thesis in the laboratory of Dr. Susan Pedigo at the University of Mississippi. My work in the lab focused on characterizing the dimerization-dependent stability of the isolated N-terminal domain of neural cadherin (NCAD1). With the data collected, we were able to determine that the monomeric and dimeric forms. Of NCAD1 were spectrally distinct from each other and that the two forms interconvert in a discontinuous cycle. 2. Graduate Research: My graduate research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms of platelet exocytosis and the proteins involved in the process. My work in particular focuses on understanding the role of alpha-synuclein in platelet exocytosis. Data collected so far demonstrates that alpha-synuclein does have a role in platelet exocytosis and as we collect more data we hope to better understand alpha-synuclein’s physiological function in platelets and how the process of platelet exocytosis is regulated.
